We have included underneath the video a breakdown of all costs, plus transport and accommodation information.

Costs and Transport Information

On top of our accommodation and transport costs we had a daily budget of £15 each for food and drink. We found Guatemala to be the cheapest country so far on our travels and ended up with £50 each left over, so we changed it up at the border to El Salvador for US Dollars.

We stayed overnight in Flores before heading onwards to Lanquin. We found our hotel on, it was called Hotel los Estudiantes and cost us £6 each.

Travel from Flores to Lanquin

The coach company we used was and we booked our tickets online. The trip took around 8 hours in total and cost us £20 each. The bus picked us up at 8.00am from the hotel and took us straight to the door of our next hotel.

We stayed for 2 nights at El Retiro, we found the hotel on and it cost £7 per person, per night. The hotel was set in beautiful grounds and situated right on the river.

We booked our day trip to Semuc Champey through the hotel and it cost us £20 per person. It was by far our favourite day of our travels so far, and definitely worth going! The price included transport, caving, diving, hiking and swimming.

Travel from Lanquin to Antigua

Once again we used and pre booked our coach to Antigua. The journey took over 8 hours and cost another £20 each. We got picked up late from our hotel, and then waited another 20 minutes before leaving, but the journey itself was ok and we made plenty of stops.

The apartment we rented in Antigua was beautiful, we found it on Airbnb and it cost £12 per person, per night. It had a washing machine and tumble dryer which proved very handy, also by cooking our meals we saved quite a bit of our daily budget to spend on drink!

We booked our hike up the Volcano on trip advisor and it cost £14 each, this did not include the £5 park entrance fee.

Travel from Antigua to Panajechel

The cheapest company we found was which took us for £16 each and picked us up outside our hotel. the trip took 2.5 hours and the scenery was breathtaking.

The cabin in the woods was an Airbnb find, we paid £5 per person per night. Apart from the initial scorpion scare, we had a great time and the cabin had everything you need. We stayed for 5 nights.

We took a boat to San Marcos La Laguna for the day which cost £5 per person.

Total cost per person for 11 nights budget backpacking through Guatemala was £346

This included our £15 a day food and drink budget, however we ended up with £50 each left over which we added to our El Salvador budget.

Total cost of our trip so far, 21 days backpacking through 3 countries was £784.26
